Established in 1969 as a native animal sanctuary, Alma Park became a registered zoo in 1973 with the arrival of exotic animals . The zoo was taken over by an animal loving family in 1981 and has since undergone extensive redevelopment to improve conditions for the animals. We depend on the support of the public to continue this work
Alma Park Zoo is an easy drive about 30 minutes (or 28KM) North of the Brisbane City Centre just off the Bruce Highway on the way to the Sunshine Coast. Alma Park Zoo is a unique tropical zoo set on 20 acres of award winning palm gardens with Australian and exotic animals nestled amongst them.
Look for the big brown zoo sign at the Boundary Road exit and follow the signs 2 Km to the Zoo.
When you arrive at the zoo you drive in to our internal car parks and have access to your vehicle during your visit. You can bring all your own food and drink to the zoo and use our many picnic tables and picnic lawns or our barbeques (we supply the wood).
We also have a café in the grounds that sells freshly made sandwiches, rolls, cakes, ice creams, tea, coffee and soft drinks. We also have postcards and souvenir squirrel monkeys, sun bears, koalas and kangaroos.
Your only cost is entry to the zoo, however if you wish you can buy animal feed at the entrance or café for $3.00 per bag or 2 for $5.00.
Our animal feeding times for Bears, Squirrel Monkeys and Koalas (these all link to appropriate images in the meet the animals page) happen morning and afternoon, are great fun, and are accompanied by informative and educational talks.
