Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is the home to the world's largest collection of Australian native animals.

The Sanctuary is an oasis, located in the centre of Australia's popular holiday destination, the Gold Coast. With over 27 hectares of landscaped surrounds and bushland catering for over 1400 mammals, birds and reptiles, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary offers a unique natural experience.

Take in the sights of Australia by visiting the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where you can see native animals face to face in natural surroundings. The Sanctuary is also recognised worldwide as a quality research and conservation facility.

Conveniently situated beside the main highway and still only metres from the sandy white beaches of the Gold Coast, the Sanctuary is an opportunity to visit the green behind the gold.

EDUCATION

A visit to the Sanctuary is a great opportunity for students to view native Australian animals in natural settings. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to one of the world's largest collections of Australian Animals featuring over 1500 individual animals from over 200 species! Our Education Service provides quality programs for all students including primary, secondary, tertiary and international. Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary provides for an ideal learning situation as students are immersed in an environment rich with native plant and animal life.

Education visits include:

  • Education Presentation with trained staff (a range of topics available, or we'll cater one to suit your needs).
  • Free student workbook for every student (lower, middle & upper primary and lower & upper secondary available).
  • Free teacher information pack including our brand new Guide's Guide. This book contains information about the main animal exhibits you will encounter during your day. It also includes suggested questions and activities to maximise the educational benefits to students. A range of pre and post visit lessons are also part of the Guide's Guide.
  • Free guide for students to share with their family. It provides easy and environmentally-friendly practices to undertake at their home to improve their own little piece of the Australian environment.
  • Wildlife shows - Totally Wild, Snakes Alive and our new Free-Flight Bird Show
  • Keeper talks and animal feeding times. These sessions allow students the opportunity to talk with the experts and ask questions about each animal. ยท Train rides.
  • Wild Lorikeet feeding each morning and afternoon.
  • Aboriginal Dance performance.

There are also a number of unique and convenient services we now offer school groups. Let us help you with the organisation of your day to ensure it's a day to remember for everyone involved . . .

  • Lunches - a range of menus to suit everyone's budgets and tastebuds.
  • Student Fauna Photos - your students have their photograph holding a snake or cuddling a koala. A wonderful and very unique alternative to traditional studio shots. A great memento of a great day.

The Sawrey Room
With its magnificent outback mural by renowned Australian artist Hugh Sawrey, the Sawrey Room is the perfect venue for dinners, cocktail parties and functions. With full bar facilities and adjacent kitchen, the Sawrey Room offers a wide range of exciting food and beverage options.

Naturally Wild
With areas both indoors and outdoors, Naturally Wild offers guests the chance to enter an amazing rainforest environment surrounded by fascinating wildlife. Giant Jungle Pythons, Freshwater Crocodiles and nocturnal wildlife all make this a unique location for any occasion.

Aboriginal Dance Arena
As the sound of the digeridoo resonates in the night air, dancers move swiftly as birds as the campfire flickers in the background. Your guests are transported to the world of the Dreamtime in a natural bushland setting.

Crocodile Wetlands
How about a croc-tail? This scenic bush setting is perfect for late afternoon and early evening functions. The boardwalk area provides a magnificent view of the Sanctuary and also lets guests get a close look at our resident Saltwater Crocodiles - the world's largest living reptile!

Close Encounters Arena
When you need to make a presentation that your guests will remember, the Close Encounters Arena is the perfect venue. With some of Australia's most dangerous snakes and some of Australia's most fascinating marsupials and reptiles from the Totally Wild presentation.

The Summerhouse
Guests can travel deep into the heart of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary's bushland reserve to discover a private and intimate retreat for your guests. The Summerhouse provides a cool and shady venue surrounded by lush native trees with a scenic view over the Western Reserve.
