South Stradbroke Island, or "Straddie" as it is known to the locals, is a Conservation Park located at the northern end of the Gold Coast. This unique sand island features the calm Broadwater on the western side, virtually untouched native bushland in the centre whilst on the other side you will find 22kms of pristine surf beach with hardly a soul in sight. From the eastern, surf side of the island, there are spectacular views of the beautiful Gold Coast, and you can catch glimpses of the majestic humpback whales migrating north to breed during whale watching season, which starts in June and runs through to late October. The northern section of Straddie was developed into an award-winning Ecotourism Resort - Ramada Couran Cove Island Resort.
