Day 1 - Gold Coast to Stanthorpe

We head out of the glitzy Gold Coast and over the mountains and towards a town where the skies are bluer and the air is fresher, Warwick.   Go back in time at the Glengallan Homestead and Heritage Centre, then onto the historical town of Warwick which is where you enjoy a light lunch followed by a guided tour of a large historical hotel, built in 1887.  Hear the story of an old hat and glass bottle in the walls of the building, relics of an ancient Celtic tradition to ward off evil spirits.   Tonight we gather for our “Welcome Dinner and Drinks”
2 nights:  High Street Motor Inn, STANTHORPE (L,D)

Day 2 - Stanthorpe

After a hearty breakfast let us depart and find what is hidden away in this part of Southern Queensland.  See the cluster of pyramids that beg to be discovered on a country drive, around Ballandean, the pyramids: some big, some awe-inspiring and some delicious!  We call in to Wisteria Cottage & Heavenly Chocolates, a quaint setting with native birds feeding amongst a pretty garden setting and a rustic verandah to sit and enjoy a sinfully decadent European hot chocolate with your ‘pyramid’.  A fabulous lunch today will be a real experience at Queensland College of Wine Tourism’s VARIAS RESTAURANT.  This is an Award Winning restaurant !!
2nd night:  High Street Motor Inn, STANTHORPE (B,L,D)

Day 3 - Stanthorpe to Moree

This morning we find ourselves motoring down the road to Tenterfield.   The quaint blue-granite Saddlery on High Street, the Tenterfield Saddler is a piece of Australian history and here you may find time to browse this interesting store.  Later we’ll call in and hear all the fascinating history at the Land of the Beardies History House in the charming town of Glen Innis and then visit the Australian Standing Stones in Centennial Park – where perhaps there may be a Scottish Bagpiper in all his TARTAN !
1 night:  Albert Hotel,  MOREE (B,L,D)

Day 4 - Moree to Lightning Ridge

A great morning for the marvellous Moree History town tour with a local Guide.  The tour includes tasting local produce before we explore the main street of town that focuses on the town’s rich Art Deco heritage.  How ghostly do you feel about a wander through the Moree Historic Cemetery where perhaps the most famous grave is that of Charles Dickens?   The Royal Hotel will deliver you a delicious bistro lunch before we hit the road towards the unique mining town of Lightning Ridge.
1 night:  Lightning Ridge Outback Resort,  LIGHTNING RIDGE (B,L,D)

Day 5 - Lightning Ridge to Cunnamulla

A trip to the Ridge would not be complete without a Black Opal Tour where you will discover the colourful nature of The Ridge.  I am lead to believe it is a GEM of a tour.  After a morning of discovery, we take a casual drive to Cunnamulla.  Cunnamulla is rich in history, Aussie Larrikins, wildlife, natural beauty and wonder is just about as “Outback” as you can get.  On arrival in Cunnamulla  you will instantly feel it’s distinct old world charm.  Authentic Outback Campfire dinner and local entertainment tonight is something you will delight in.
2 nights:  Club Boutique Hotel,  CUNNAMULLA (B,L,D)

Day 6 - Cunnamulla

After a well-deserved sleep-in this morning and after a good hearty breakfast we will be out and about with a local guide for a guided tour around this fascinating town where the hotels in the main street have remained unchanged for over half a century, the shops still have a pre-supermarket feel to them, and the tree-lined streets evoke the world of the country town long past.   Tonight we saddle up for a highly entertaining local Dinner and Show which promises an unforgettable night.
2nd night CUNNAMULLA (B,L,D)

Day 7 - Cunnamulla to Quilpie

This morning we take a drive to EULO, the “Montville of the Outback” Eulo is known for its ancient artesian springs where water oozes to the surface as milky grey mud.  Your local guide will share his knowledge on the Air Raid Shelter built at Eulo during WW2.  Why is it in Eulo? Let’s find out.  Lunch is served at the Eulo Queen Hotel, this iconic hotel was built in 1882.  After a browse around this interesting wee town we reboard the coach and make our way to Quilpie, the small service centre on the Bulloo River known for its boulder opals.
1 night:  Quilpie Motor Inn, QUILPIE

Day 8 - Quilpie to Charleville

Home to “The Jewel of the Outback”, the beautiful boulder opal, Quilpie displays it in the most unique of ways. See the opal in all its glory at St. Finbarr’s Church with the spectacular Opal Altar, Font & Lectern or try your luck at the free opal fossicking area 2km west of town.  Don’t miss the literal ‘End of the Line’, Bulloo River Walk, the old Powerhouse Museum and the Mini Museum at the airport.  Later today be inspired by the Australian outback scenery as we travel to Charleville, home to both the southern Queensland base of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of Distance Education.

Day 9 - Charleville

This morning be inspired by the Australian outback scenery as we travel to Charleville, home to both the southern Queensland base of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the School of Distance Education. Tonight after a delightful dinner you might like to Ooh and Ahh in the Observatory at Charleville’s Cosmos Centre, when on a clear night sky viewing the incredible beauty of the Milky Way Galaxy. Tonight, relax, unwind and go into a restful slumber where many well-known and famous people have done so before.  Some of which include Gough Whitlam, Gracie Fields, Johnny O’Keefe and many more
2nd night Charleville

Day 10 - Charleville

You awake to a brand new day and after a good breakfast you tour the World War II Top Secret United States Airbase History Convoy and discover the story behind 3,500 USAAF servicemen based in Charleville from 1942 to 1946.  History brought to life and yes, the ladies should also enjoy this tour. Historic House & Museum tour will delight and take you back…..and, how about Billy Tea and delicious damper spread with syrup, honey or jam made just for you by one of the local characters. Your picnic lunch is in the Graham Andrews Parklands where you have the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lake which will allow you to identify and lean of 18 different species of Outback trees.

Day 11 - Charleville to Roma

Like a band of gypsies we go down the highway towards Roma and on the way we pull up at the Mungallala.  Mungallala’s social life revolves around the town’s solitary hospitality establishment – the Pub where you’re sure to meet a few of the local characters. After we check-in to our accommodation we make our way to The Barn at Mount Hope.  It is here you get to experience a truly authentic country hospitality with a Sunset Station Tour and Dinner.
2 nights ROMA

Day 12 - Roma

TODAY IS CATTLE AUCTION DAY!  Roma Saleyards are the largest cattle selling facility in the southern hemisphere, selling over 400,000 cattle a year.  This morning we get to witness the great Cattle Auction, an incredible sight to see!   Depart for the airport for this afternoon you take a 15 minute scenic helicopter flight which will give a birds-eye view of picturesque Grafton Range and Roma’s outlying areas. Time now to freshen up at the hotel before we depart for The Night Show Sunset Experience where you join a guide on a Sunset Tour to the EMSCO Rig and enjoy ‘really’ good regional Port whilst hearing the stories of yesteryear.  As the sun sets, relax under the outback skies as you are taken on a 35 minutes on a Sound and Light Journey to learn of the entertaining trail to triumphs of early industry men and woman in Roma.

Day 14 - Toowoomba to Gold Coast

This morning we visit Toowoomba’s most impressive tourist attraction, the Cobb + Co Museum followed by a walk through history with a local guide followed by lunch.   After a leisurely start to our last day, we board the coach and travel to the Gold Coast.
