Parents with young children know the dread of taking their first family beachside holiday and arriving at the beautiful beach only to find rough surf, busy shallows, no shade, and no toilets or showers.

All of a sudden, your dream holiday becomes a lot less fun.

That’s why our Discover Queensland team have done the *ahem* hard work for you and scoured the Sunshine Coast for our top beaches for families with young children!

Twin Waters
This sandy lake is the perfect place to take your little ones for their first swim. Being a lake means there are zero waves or rips to worry about. It’s also a great compromise if you have older children also, as the Novotel Twin Waters offers water activities including catamaran sailing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and more. (These are mostly free for Sebel Twin Waters or Novotel Twin Waters guests).

If your little ones have a knack for swimming you can easily take them to a patrolled surf beach by taking a 5 minute stroll down the beach path to Mudjimba Beach!

There are two resorts on each side of the lake, Sebel Twin Waters and Novotel Twin Waters, both are in an ideal spot. We love the spacious and lavish apartments of the Sebel for families.

Point Cartwright, Kawana
This secret spot is nestled between Port Cartwright Headland and the mouth of the Mooloolaba river. It’s a 5 or 10 minute walk to reach this secluded sandy paradise, but it’s well worth the extra effort!

Half way along the beach you’ll find a huge 100 meter long rock pool perfect for the kids to splash about it safely. Just be sure to bring what you need to this little haven as amenities are minimal.

Beachside Resort Kawana is the perfect place to base the family for easy access to this beautiful beachside spot.

Currimundi Lake
Nestled between the ocean and the mouth of the river, providing a sheltered swimming area, and the perfect spot to bring your kayaks and stand up paddle boards! This is a popular beach, not only is it patrolled but there is a café, showers and toilets nearby, so you can have a coffee and wash the sand off your little ones toes!

Oaks Oasis Resort is nearby Currimundi Lake and is also a great choice for young families as there are loads of facilities for kids including a waterpark, BMX track, trampolines with ipad games and more!

Kings Beach, Caloundra
This is a one stop swimming mecca for kids. You’ve got your choice of patrolled surf beach, rock pools, ocean front pool and Kings Beach Park which is equipped with water fountains in the huge play area.

There are also plenty of amenities from BBQ facilities to cafes and restaurants lining the ocean front.

As well as Oaks Oasis Resort and BreakFree Grand Pacific, another favourite of ours to keep the family close to Kings Beach amenities is Rolling Surf Resort. We love this Sunshine Coast accommodation option as it boasts an absolute beachfront location and spacious apartments.

Bulcock Beach
This patrolled beach sports calm waters, an array of cafes and restaurants across the road, a grassy park, and a beachfront boardwalk that spans most of the coastline heading towards Pumicestone Passage.
