The Gold Coast is the perfect holiday destination. It’s fun, laid-back, full of beautiful restaurants and home to some of the best beaches and weather world wide. While each of these beaches are spectacular, some are more rugged with thundering waves, rips, and rocky headlands. Which means, less than ideal for young families looking to take small children swimming. So we’ve put together a list of our top 5 favourite beaches that are both stunning and perfect swimming nooks for your little ones.  If you're after a little off the beaten path adventure, check out our list of Queensland best swimming holes!

  1. Ian Dipple Lagoon, Broadwater
This little naturally occurring ocean pool is the perfect spot for young families, you have one of the Gold Coast’s most famous sea food restaurants, the steady, rip-free protected beach of the broadwater, and an ocean front playground to keep the kids entertained all day long!

The perfect accommodation pair for families can be found at Sandcastles on the Broadwater, directly opposite the lagoon! Treasure Island Resort is only a short distance up Brisbane Road (Gold Coast Highway) and is one of the Gold Coast most popular accommodation choices for families with heaps to do. Not to mention it’s also practically next door to Harbour Town Outlet Shopping Centre! The Grand Apartments are also just across from the beach offering spacious rooms perfect for families.

  1. Broadwater Parklands
Further south from Ian Dipple Lagoon are the Broadwater Parklands. This man made oasis is the perfect place to bring the kids and settle in for the day. There are man made rock pools, and water holes along the shorefront along with one of the biggest parks on the Gold Coast. There are sheltered beaches lining the park, as well as plenty of BBQ areas to cook up a feast.

You’ll also find the inflatable GC Aqua Park, floating on the Broadwater, which is great fun for kids 5 years and older (including Mum and Dad!)

Accommodation staying close to this beach and waterpark gem is much the same as above, but families should call our holiday experts on 1300 788 553 for a personalized recommendation.

  1. Tallebudgera Creek Inlet
Nestled on the southern side of Burleigh Headland where Tallebudgera Creek meets the ocean is popular Tallebudgera Creek Inlet. This spot is a favourite among locals and visitors alike for good reason – it’s absolutely stunning. As well as post card perfect, the water here is flat making it great for small children who are just learning to swim or are growing their confidence in open waters.

If you’re little ones like to walk or appreciate the rainforest, be sure to cross the creek and do the Burleigh Hill walk. Challenge the kids to see if they can spot any koalas on their journey! Read our blog on Queensland's best swimming spots for three secret spots around Talle creek for a quieter swim.

We love Boardwalk Burleigh Beach for nearby Gold Coast Family Accommodation, as the views are second to none and the apartments are brand new. Swell Resort and Burleigh Mediterranean Resort are another two favourites.

  1. Currumbin Creek / Pirate Park
Similar to Tallebudgera Creek Inlet, Currumbin Creek Inlet is located at the mouth of Currumbin River and is another fantastic beach for families with small children. This beach is very popular among couples, friends, and families with older kids as the water is perfect for stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and more.

There is also a café that boasts amazing coffee, treats, light meals and live music on the weekends. Another bonus for families is the pirate themed park at the entrance to the beach.

Royal Palm Resort is one of the best places to stay for families as a place winner of Holidays with Kids Best Family Resort in Australia 2017! Another great spot is San Simeon Beachfront Apartments, while there are less amenities, it is right on the beachfront!

  1. Sea World Drive
For spectacular aqua waters that are refreshingly calm head straight for Sea World Drive. If you’re a beach lover, you’ll recognize this as the route to ‘The Spit’. Once you’ve pasted Sea World on your left, you’ve hit gold. Gold sand that is!

All along the left side of the road are secluded stretches of calm pristine beach! You can also find more places to relax with the little ones further up the road, once you hit The Spit, turn left and follow the road 500 meters there are even more calm water spots.

Not only are these beaches great for little ones, but most of them have plenty of shade thanks to the flora and are perfect for kayaking and fishing. This is also a great spot to see dolphins frolicking!
Accommodation close to this strip of family friendly beaches include the famous Sea World Resort (complete with its own impressive water park), Palazzo Versace, and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort which backs onto the surf beach!
